However, many users prefer a so-called on-premise installation. This means that the software is installed directly on one's own hardware and is not dependent on the cloud. The licence for use is valid indefinitely. One of the main reasons why many customers prefer this model is the lower costs. In the medium and long term, much higher expenses are required for the subscription version. In addition, there are other aspects that make the use of Microsoft365 difficult, especially in a commercial environment. Data protection plays an important role here. It is questionable whether this product complies with the EU data protection directives. In addition, some companies refrain from using the cloud for security reasons. Many devices also work completely offline.

Due to the advantages that the subscription version offers Microsoft, it was uncertain for a long time whether the provider would offer a purchase version for its Office products at all. However, since more and more customers who reject Microsoft365 have migrated to competing products, Microsoft has now decided to make a new version available after all. In which editions is Office 2021 available?

Microsoft used to offer its Office packages in several different editions - for example Home and Student, Home and Business, Standard or Professional Plus. These are characterised in particular by a different programme composition. While the basic programmes such as Word and Excel are available in all editions, there are some programmes such as Publisher or Access that are only included in the somewhat more expensive editions. In addition, there are some differences with regard to the licensing model.

However, if you are interested in Office 2021 Professional Plus, for example, you will not find any information on this yet. This is because the manufacturer has not yet provided any precise information on the individual editions. Microsoft has only announced two versions so far: Office 2021 and Office LTSC. It has not yet been clarified which editions will be released, what they will be called and which programmes they will contain.

Office 2021 is aimed at private users and small businesses. It is not yet known exactly which programmes will be included. However, it is likely that there will again be several different versions.
